Body in pond may be man missing in Missouri City
The body of a man was found in a flood control pond in Missouri City Monday afternoon, authorities said.
Police said the body was discovered at 3900 Montego Bay Court in the Lake Shore Harbor Subdivision about 12:15 p.m.
Police said foul play does not appear to be involved in the death.
Investigators are waiting for the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office to officially determine the cause of death and to identify the man. However, investigators said, the man appears to match the description of Jessie James Washington, an elderly man who went missing about 9 p.m. Sunday.
Washington was traveling with family from Huntsville to his home in Marshall when he became lost and made an apparent near-100-mile detour to Missouri City, police said.
After his vehicle ran out of gas, Washington left his wife and two young grandchildren to search for fuel, family members told police.
Officers found the family in the parked vehicle in the Lake Shore Harbor Subdivision after Washington had been gone for about 20 minutes.
